Faith Formation
Adult Formation

BIBLE STUDY - Join us every Tuesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:00pm online, via Google Meet, to discern and discuss the upcoming Sunday's lectionary readings.

BOOK GROUP - We read fiction novels and non-fiction biographies and memoirs that have spiritual or theological themes throughout the year and meet to discuss the texts approximately once a quarter. Our book for Autumn 2025 is
The Night Watchman: A Novel, by Louise Erdrich.

ADULT FORUM - Continuing faith formation for adults that addresses theology, history, ethics, and spirituality. The forum will variously consist of books discussions, lectures offered by the rector, or group spiritual exercises and reflections during Lent or Advent. Recently, small groups at St. John's have engaged in
Sacred Ground and Exploring the Doctrine of Discovery. Our text for Advent 2024 was Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas by Adam Hamilton.

Children's Formation
St. John's Westwood offers a Children's Liturgy of the Word for children in kindergarten through 4th grade on almost every Sunday in the program year from 10:05am through about 10:35am. Children sing the opening hymn with their families, and are dismissed to the Upper Room above the chancel for their formation; they return to the main church for Holy Eucharist at the Sign of the Peace & Announcements.
Once a month, St. John's Westwood offers an immersive Formation experience for all families beginning at 9:15am in the Nave. The theme varies depending on the season. Formation rolls into a shortened Eucharist at 10:00am, followed by an expansive coffee hour brunch.
